Welcome Madeleine Palumbo to the Embryology Team!

Posted on June 9, 2025 by Inception Fertility

At Tennessee Fertility Institute (TFI), we know that every person on our team plays a critical role in helping patients achieve their dreams of parenthood—especially those working behind the scenes in our embryology lab. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce Madeleine Palumbo, Embryologist II, the newest member of our embryology team. With a strong scientific foundation, deep respect for the patient experience, and a genuine love for the work she does, Madeleine brings both skill and heart to her role. In her own words, she shares what drew her to embryology, why she chose TFI, and what she hopes every patient knows about the care that goes into each embryo.

Curiosity, Chemistry & Career Beginnings

I've always had an interest in science; I was always curious as to why things worked and how we were able to figure those things out. To me, science is like a challenging puzzle and I love putting the pieces of that puzzle into place.

After I graduated college, I knew I wanted to work in a lab — I liked working with my hands in a technical setting. Right out of college, I started working as an embryologist at a fertility clinic in Towson, Maryland, and I quickly fell in love with the work. I still pause and revel in the wonder of the work that we do as embryologists.

After 3 years of working in Maryland, I wanted a fresh start in a new place, and Nashville seemed like a great town to have that new beginning. I was drawn to TFI's emphasis on patient care, and how the embryologists are given the opportunity to have that patient interaction.

Precision with Purpose: A Day in the Life of an Embryologist

As an embryologist, I love the intersection of the technical lab setting and the overarching mission of the field. I am proud of what I do every day knowing that my work is vital to the goal of family building.

Right now, a typical day for me in the lab is thawing embryos, doing some transfers, then doing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in the afternoon. One thing I enjoy about being an embryologist is that every day is a little different. I like having work to do both in the lab and in the office, with different projects interspersed throughout the week.

I wish patients could see the diligence that every embryologist carries throughout their work. We understand that although we do the work every day, for patients, this can be the most pivotal moment in their lives. We remember that with each case, and put the proper care and attention into every procedure we perform.

Outside the Lab

Outside of work, I love to be outdoors. I often take walks with my boyfriend after work, and try out new hiking trails during the weekends. I love practicing yoga, seeing live music, and cooking.

Welcoming a New Chapter in Care and Precision

Madeleine’s passion for science, patient care, and precision makes her a valuable addition to the Tennessee Fertility Institute team. Her dedication behind the microscope reflects a deep understanding of the life-changing moments patients experience on their path to parenthood. We’re thrilled to have her, and even more excited for our patients to benefit from her expertise and compassion—one embryo at a time.
